Description
The Geo-Con Shrink / Swell Apparatus is used to measure the shrink/swell index of soils in accordance with AS1289.7.1.1: 2025. The apparatus consists of a consolidation cell, stainless steel cutting ring, two porous plates, loading device, cradle, surcharge and a dial indicator. A 5mm spacer disc for use with sample preparation is available as an accessory.
The consolidation cell is assembled together with the soil sample within the cutting ring and the upper and lower porous plates. The assembly is placed in the loading device and the initial 5kPa seating pressure is applied by moving the cradle from the holder onto the cell. The specimen is then loaded to 25kPa by placing the surcharge into position on the cradle. The cell is then filled with water. The dial indicator measures the changes in the thickness of the soil specimen.
